Leighton Medley our BPCA Outreach Minister has returned to Pakistan to reach new communities with the true Gospel of Christ and to continue discipling those who have been already been reached through our previous campaigns. Leighton’s remit for this work is quite simple, he is to bolster the faith of Christians who have little access to regular church services setting up bible study leaders who will one day become ministers of the Gospel in rural communities, he is to bring revival and better understanding to Christian churches in Pakistan many of which have adopted a very legalistic theology and have forgotten the need for repentance, faith in Christ and the need to place our trust in Him. Leighton has also been reaching out to Muslims and we hope that soon his work will provide a dividend by bringing others to the family of God.
He has been having great success with many believers expressing revival, churchgoers committing their lives to Christ, and Muslims taking an interest in the Gospel though yet to commit to Christ. We hope with further donations to make Leighton’s role a permanent one in two years time. For this we will need the help and support of those who was to see Christ’s gospel flourishing in Pakistan and seek you help to finance this important ministry. Below is one of Leighton’s recent accounts of a trip to, Rukhawala, Kasur (near Lahore):
“Unto what is the Kingdom of God like? And whereunto shall I resemble it?” (Luke 13:18)
Today we revisited the old farming community of Rukahwala in the Kasur province of Lahore. The last time we came 12 months ago, was truly a time of great joy and it was no different this time. Once again, we were hosted by Pastor Willi who affectionately told me how the people remember me because of my great height, I’m six feet three inches and do tower over most of these people.
There seems to be great excitement upon our arrival, everyone is dressed, particularly the ladies in their Sunday best as it were and one cannot fail to notice all the vibrant colours on show. The meeting was one of the most enjoyable I’ve had to be fair, we were treated to a tabla dance by some of the young girls and to hear the children singing at the top of their voices “hallelujah, praise the Lord” upon our entrance moved me to tears.
Last time we came there were maybe 50-70 persons present at the meeting, whereas today I would say there were 100. What was even more encouraging, was that we actually saw the bibles that we gave out last time, being used especially by the younger people. I have recognised a shortage though and have ordered 25 more bibles to delivered here for the people to use, as most of them do possess some reading ability.
Even more encouraging were the amount of men present, I have really prayed in this area and God seems to be finally convicting the men of their families, to come and hear the word preached. For this, I also thank Pastor William Masih, who is a great example to his people, I believe he has encouraged the menfolks to come and he has never asked for a penny in return or from us in any shape or form. His desire, like mine is just to see his people grow in the knowledge of the Lord.
I preach from Luke 13:18-21, on the parable of the Mustard Seed, where the emphasis being on the Kingdom of God having small beginnings and being gradually leavened through the Work of the Holy Spirit into some much greater and powerful. This is the case with the Church, we are gradually being made more holy through the inner workings of our heart, convicting us of sin and guilt, leading us to trust more and more in the Lord God to provide that growth, which does not come from us, but from Him and Him alone.
I tell them, that as a Christian minority in Muslim Pakistan, they must act as leaven, to leaven the nation of Pakistan with the Gospel, that many more may receive salvation as a result. Sister Rajia Nayyer acted as my translator and did a super job, when she asked at the end if they understood the parable, there was a resounding yes. They were filled with joy, and happy with the Word they received. Please pray that this community would continue to grow in grace and faith that they would not just become a great tree, where the fowls of the air would lodge, but also the leaven of the Holy Spirit, leavening the whole of Pakistan, Amen.
