A young Christian man was brutally murdered by his Muslim friends in Sheikhupura, Pakistan. In a gruesome attempt to cover up the crime, the perpetrators laid his body on a railway track, hoping to make it appear as though the death was an accident. The body was later recovered and buried in the man’s native village in Kamonki.
Suleman Masih RIPOn 30th September 2024, a young Christian man named Suleman Masih (24) was brutally murdered by his Muslim friends in Sheikhupura. The murderer, Baroo Dogar, lured Suleman from his home at 9:00 pm, viciously dismembered him, and left his body parts on a railway track near Khanpur Canal. The police discovered his body later that night but were unable to contact the family immediately as Suleman did not have his phone. Only an ID card found in his pocket revealed his identity.
Saddar Police in Sheikhupura coordinated with Kamonki Police to trace Suleman’s family in Lakhiya village, Kamonki. It was through this communication that Asif Masih, Suleman’s elder brother, was informed of his tragic death.
The dead body of Suleman Masih was taken to Civil Hospital Sheikhupura for a post-mortem, but due to the severity of the case, the doctors referred it to a hospital in Lahore. After the post-mortem was completed on 1st October, Suleman’s body was handed over to his grieving family, who conducted his funeral rites.
On 2nd October, the British Asian Christian Association (BACA) team visited the bereaved family, paying the funeral costs and ensuring legal assistance to seek justice for Suleman’s murder. Suleman had lived with his brothers, Amanat Masih (40) and Asif Masih (36), in Bhutto Colony, Sheikhupura, for the past three years. He worked at a tile manufacturing factory, where he formed a friendship with Baroo Dogar and his associates. Asif shared that Baroo frequently visited Suleman, and they often went out together.
On 30th September, around 9:00 pm, Suleman’s Muslim friend, Baroo Dogar, arrived at his home and took him for a walk. Asif Masih explained to BACA that they allowed Suleman to go because the two were friends and often went out together. However, Asif became anxious when Suleman did not return after 2 or 3 hours. He began searching for his brother in the streets. Since Suleman did not have a phone, Asif tried calling Baroo, but his calls went unanswered.
Suleman’s body was taken to Civil Hospital Sheikhupura for a post-mortem, but it was referred to Lahore. After the post-mortem, the family received the body and took it to Suleman’s native village, Lakhiya in Kamonki, where they performed the final rites that same night.
Asif Masih has filed an application against Baroo Dogar and his accomplices, but Baroo has fled to an unknown location to evade arrest. On 2nd October, the BACA team visited Lakhiya Village, Kamonki, where they prayed with the family and covered the funeral expenses. Asif expressed his gratitude to BACA and asked for their assistance in fighting for justice for his innocent brother’s murder.
The British Asian Christian Association has launched an appeal to support this family in need. The ritualistic killing of Suleman Masih not only exposes the depths of human depravity but also poses a significant safety threat to others in our community. The murderer and any accomplices involved demonstrate profoundly deranged minds, yet Pakistan’s notorious Qisas and Diyat laws may provide them with an opportunity to evade justice.
Despite the clinical dismemberment of Suleman’s body—an act that medical professionals agree could not have resulted from a train accident—the police have failed to officially classify this as a crime. This egregious oversight reflects a deeply flawed justice system that places vulnerable Christians at even greater risk of violence.
