Leighton Medley our BPCA Outreach Minister has returned to Pakistan to reach new communities with the true Gospel of Christ and to continue discipling those who have been already been reached through our previous campaigns. Leighton’s remit for this work is quite simple, he is to bolster the faith of Christians who have little access to regular church services setting up bible study leaders who will one day become ministers of the Gospel in rural communities, he is to bring revival and better understanding to Christian churches in Pakistan many of which have adopted a very legalistic theology and have forgotten the need for repentance, faith in Christ and the need to place our trust in Him. Leighton has also been reaching out to Muslims and we hope that soon his work will provide a dividend by bringing others to the family of God.
He has been having great success with many believers expressing revival, churchgoers committing their lives to Christ, and Muslims taking an interest in the Gospel though yet to commit to Christ. We hope with further donations to make Leighton’s role a permanent one in two years time. For this we will need the help and support of those who was to see Christ’s gospel flourishing in Pakistan and seek you help to finance this important ministry. One of our costs is the purchase of bibles at £4 each. If you would like to help please donate by clicking (here).
Below is one of Leighton’s recent accounts of a trip to, Bahar Colony, Lahore:
Well here we are again, back in Pakistan for another months ministry and tonight we had the pleasure of being hosted by Pastor Rashid Masih and the fellowship of Millennium Kingdom Church in Bahar Colony, Lahore. It has taken some preparation for this seminar, but i was encouraged to learn that hardly anyone teaches from the book of Ruth these days, so i was happy to see what God had to say to these Christians from this important book. Millennium Kingdom Church has been in existence nearly ten years now, and has seen in the past 2 years, substantial growth, not just numerically, but in grace and faith also. Pastor Rashid is well aware of the persecution issues facing Christians in Pakistan, but like me, believes that if we can teach the Gospel faithfully, then we can see the lives of Christians turned around for the better. His church is living proof of this, many of the young men are now working full time, and his wife Sister Aqeela was just last year, promoted in her job on merit, even beating Muslims to the position of Professor. No mean feat considering what Christians have to deal with here, and she is so humble also, no showing of pride whatsoever,
The seminar on the first night is conducted outside on the lawn, where we have approximately 150 or so turn up to hear the Word preached. As usual, the worship is vibrant and full of life, and my translator, Pastor Rashid himself, does a fine job of translation. We preached from the first 2 chapters of Ruth, looking at the Voyage Home and how the choices we make can have differing consequences on our lives, especially if they are not God`s choices. On Chapter 2, we looked at the Character of God, Boaz and Ruth, and how everything fits in with God`s promises and purposes. The Faith and Glory Seminar supported by the BPCA, turns out to be a roaring success on the first night, with no fewer than 12 people wishing after the meeting, to give their lives to Christ, though i believe some of these are probably backsliders, returning to the faith after some time. We share tea and food afterwards, where what is particularly encouraging is how the young men are responding to the Word, especially given the fact, that we`ve had so many problems getting the men interested in the past, the days of prayer and fasting have truly paid off.
Our second night was moved indoors, due to the weather, the rains came to Lahore, leaving the city damp and fairly cold. Not so many turned up for the second session, which is hardly surprising, yet we still had over 100 i would say. Here, we preached from Chapters 3 and 4, where in Chapter 3 we looked at the search for rest, which is found in marriage, community and a sense of identity and belonging, that being in Christ. And finally, in Chapter 4, we assessed God`s sovereignty throughout history, and how He directs everything through His gracious providence. No new believers tonight, but rewarding all the same and we praise God for His providence, of how He leads us to eternal life, through His election and grace. Let us rejoice and pray that this Church may continue to grow, not just in numbers, but in knowledge, wisdom and holiness also.
Praise be to the Lord, Amen.
