A Muslim man residing in the Uk is hoping to reconnect with Christian friends he knew in Karachi from the 1970’s.
If you are the couple known by him or know of there whereabouts now please do get in contact with the British Asian Christian Association, through our email: admin@britishasianchristians.org
My name is Maqsood Ahmed and I’m trying to find a couple I was friendly with, in 1970’s Pakistan.
Let me start with Rubina Moor(e). She was from a Karachi Christian family hailing from the Tooting area in London. She met and married an Englishman who was an English teacher in around 1975/6.
They relocated to Karachi and set up an TEFL English language school somewhere in the Nazimabad area. It was in an apartment block I remember.
Which is where I met them. In 1976.
This couple were an unforgettable sight on Karachi’s roads – Peter, a young white man and his Asian passenger, perched on the back of a huge green BMW motorcycle.
This motorcycle was the only one of its kind in Pakistan and ridden by a mixed-race couple……. who always brought traffic to a stop wherever they went. Quite a sight back then.
I remember they had a close friend – A fellow in his 30’s called Cyrus or Cyril who considered himself as Anglo-English. He was notorious for having a portrait of the Queen in his home, whom he worshipped.
I don’t know Rubina’s maiden name – but she was petite and about 22 at the time. Peter Moor(e) was slightly older and had a weakness for smoking ‘Charas’ and possibly other ‘chemicals’ at the time.
They both would be in their 60’s now. What became of them? Where are they now? I left Pakistan in 1977 and have not heard of them for 40 years now.
If you know anything about either of them, please let me know.
I shouldn’t have left this question unanswered for so long, but their fate has been troubling me for many years now.
Someone from the Christian community, either in the UK or Karachi must know what became of them.
Please help.
Maqsood Ahmed.
