Leighton Medley our BPCA Outreach Minister has returned to Pakistan to reach new communities with the true Gospel of Christ and to continue discipling those who have been already been reached through our previous campaigns.
Leighton’s remit for this work is quite simple, he is to bolster the faith of Christians who have little access to regular church services setting up bible study leaders who will one day become ministers of the Gospel in rural communities, he is to bring revival and better understanding to larger Christian churches in Pakistan many of which have adopted a very legalistic theology and have forgotten the need for repentance, faith in Christ and the need to place our trust in Him.
Leighton has also been reaching out to Muslims and we hope that soon his work will provide a dividend by bringing others to the family of God.
He has been having great success with many believers expressing revival, churchgoers committing their lives to Christ, and Muslims taking an interest in the Gospel though yet to commit to Christ. We hope with further donations to make Leighton’s role a permanent one in a years time. Below is one of Leighton’s recent accounts during a BPCA’s trip to Bahar Colony at a prayer session for youth over 3 days, this was the first day 2nd February 2010:
Dear All
It’s been a long time since our last visit, 15 months to be precise, but here we are again, on behalf of the BACA visiting this land once again. Again, as before, we start our tour of the Punjab, with a seminar we conduct at Millenium Kingdom Church, Bahar Colony in Lahore. They are partners with the BACA, in seeking to help with the promotion of the Gospel in Pakistan. Please pray that this partnership may bear good fruit for the kingdom, there are many different churches and organisations in Pakistan and all too often, politics and self interest have got in the way of good relationships.
The seminar we conduct, is on Isaiah 53 and the Suffering Servant of Jehovah. Our aim was twofold: first was to introduce the Old Testament to believers here in Pakistan, proving that the Old Testament leads us to Jesus. It is this chapter, which St Augustine called the 5th Gospel and Charles Spurgeon, said every Christian should know by heart, which is arguably one of the most important of the bible. It is the Gospel rolled into one chapter and amazingly this prophecy of Christ, was written 680 years before his coming.
We conduct 3 teachings in all, where we attempt to show the necessity of substitutionary atonement; that is through this passage we show through Holy Scripture, the need for a substitute saviour to die in our stead, in our place, dying the death, we as sinners deserve.
That’s the beauty of Jesus, he really and truly died for us. Why, because he loves us, because God loves us: “God so loved the world, He gave his one and only Son.” (John 3:16) This sacrifice was for us, once for all time, there is now no more need for animal sacrifices, because Christ has done it all for us. (Hebrews 9:26, 10:10) This is why it is so important, we teach this doctrine because it is one of the most important foundations of the Christian faith, no other religion in the world, teaches the necessity of a Saviour dying for his people. It is the blood of Jesus that makes us right with God.
Pastor Rashid Masih, did say to me after the seminar, that he felt this teaching was required all over Pakistan. There is a sense here now, that some churches may be starting to look more beyond experience based Christianity, and are starting to look more deeply at the Word. This is to be encouraged and prayed over, the congregation all said they were blessed, even though I do know, it would have been difficult for some of them to grasp. That is why I had Dr Rajia Nayyer translating and she did a truly fantastic job, explaining in Urdu the different theological terms, so people could understand it well. This was a good meeting and we were blessed, my prayer is that the rest of our trip can be as blessed and powerful as this was. All glory be to God.
