In a dramatic turn of events, Pastor Vicky, who faced allegations under FIR 2608/23 and FIR 1321/23, has been released from District Jail Faisalabad after a persistent legal battle led by advocate Mr. Akmal Bhatti.
After three days of physical remand, the police, in a controversial move, took Pastor Vicky to an undisclosed location, denying his family the right to meet him. The family’s concerns about police misconduct were echoed by Irum Bibi, Pastor Vicky’s aunt, who detailed the police’s refusal to allow his wife and son to deliver breakfast.
Despite the irregularities, on September 28th, the judge sent Pastor Vicky to jail on judicial remand, a move deemed irregular by advocate Mr. Akmal Bhatti, citing sections 60 and 61 of the Code of Civil Procedure (CCP). These sections mandate the accused’s court appearance before deciding on remand, ensuring a fair hearing for both parties.
The Christian community of Faisalabad rallied against these injustices on September 30th, staging a protest to demand justice for Pastor Vicky. Their persistence bore fruit when, during the subsequent court hearing, the judge accepted the post-arrest bail application presented by Mr. Akmal Bhatti, setting a surety bond of Rs.100,000.
On October 3rd, the court of Muhammad Suleman, the area Magistrate of Jaranwala, granted post-arrest bail to Pastor Vicky, marking a significant victory for justice. His release from District Jail Faisalabad was met with jubilation and gratitude from a large gathering of Pakistan’s Christian community, who welcomed him with rose petals and garlands.
Pastor Vicky and his legal team, led by Mr. Akmal Bhatti, expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming support during this challenging time. The journey to justice has been arduous, but the community’s resilience and the legal team’s unwavering dedication have ultimately prevailed.
Rt. Bishop Inderyas Rehmat led prayers at the Catholic Church, expressing gratitude for Pastor Vicky’s release and invoking blessings for his well-being. The community now looks forward to healing and unity after this trying chapter.
