Last month we shared a bit of an evaluation of the success of our ‘Meals for the Homeless’ project (click here). We continue to observe COVID-19 measures which include; no entry without masks (which we can provide) or sanitizing of hands. We also require visitors to maintain a 1.5m gap while queuing. Our food is so popular that our regular visitors are arriving at 4.30pm on Saturdays for a 6pm food distribution.
This is because we have a range of food choices produced by our volunteers every week. At least 7 homeless people rushed out to join a queue from an hour before we opened just to have their first choices accepted. We are grateful for the wonderful support this provider gives, even leading the prayers before the distribution.
We continue to serve around 40 people a week but have started reaching out to the homeless community again this year in order to increase the numbers of people we support. Several groups including Capstone Church are promoting our three evening meal service to their existing visitors and we are sharing flyers at the tents and makeshift sleeping arrangements found at homeless hotspots across the borough of Redbridge.
We have plans to provide a special meal for Christmas like last year and to provide small gifts. We have no run out of Gideon’s Bibles which is a positive, but will be seeking a new batch so we can continue sharing the Gospel with those who wish to learn more.
We thank you for your support and help and hope that donations of clothing and other help continue. If you would like to support this ministry financially feel free to donate using the option found (here).
